See in South Texas there is a misconception of being called underground due to houston. Most houston rappers are considered “Underground” even though they pull in huge main stream numbers, they always end up getting classified as underground with the exception of a select few, like travis scott and 2 chains and a few others. But majority of rappers from Texas get lumped into that “Houston is underground” mentality. As stated in a previous blog it is harder for us to break into the music industry with that kind of crutch put on us before we even have made any headway. This is the major deficency of being born in Texas and wanting to persue rap music. I’ve met several artist that have great punchlines and dope bars and great delivery, but they have faced this same issue. Not being able to accel in the industry due to the ” Underground” status of Houston the main rap hub in Texas. Most music listeners dont even know that travis scott is from Texas or that 2 chains came from Texas too. My main point being is that we are lumped into this “Underground” mentality with out being asked to if we lived in a different state would we still be considered underground or would we accel more than what we are allowed to here in texas?
